The AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is an impressive 16-core, 32-thread processor, boasting a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz (base clocks not specified). Equipped with 144MB of cache and a minimum TDP of 55W, this chip exemplifies high-performance computing. Notably, it shares the Dragon Range HX-series lineup’s unique feature of a standard desktop CPU integrated into a laptop form factor.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, is the world’s first notebook CPU with groundbreaking 3D V-Cache technology. Picture this: the L3 cache has been elevated from 64MB to a remarkable 128MB, culminating in a total cache of an impressive 145MB. The L1 and L2 cache sizes, however, remain at 1MB and 16MB, respectively. Experience the future of computing!

What AMD Said

According to AMD, V-Cache outshines even on power-limited mobile devices compared to desktop PCs, where power is not a constraint. The lower TDP allows for over double the benefit in specific games. A benchmark test using Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p and high settings showcased a 23% faster result with the 40W TDP V-Cache, while the 70W TDP offered an 11% benefit.

As per AMD’s projections, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D may offer gamers a remarkable performance increase of more than 15% compared to the current flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX, tested within the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. This elevated performance spans a variety of games, including Strange Brigade, Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2021, Total War: Warhammer 3, DOTA 2, Borderlands 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, all played at high settings and 1080p resolution. If this trend from its desktop counterparts holds true, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D could potentially become the fastest CPU available for laptops. It’s worth noting that AMD did not provide direct comparisons against Intel CPUs, though they did test on an Intel Core i9-13980HX.

Currently, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is exclusively available in Asus’ ROG Strix Scar 17, as Asus and AMD have an exclusivity deal. As of now, there are no plans for the chip to be featured in other laptops. Although the release date is August 22, pricing details and the regions of availability have not been announced yet.

AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is indeed their sixth chip equipped with 3D V-Cache technology. Alongside this formidable processor, the lineup includes its desktop counterparts – the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the Micro Center-exclusive Ryzen 5 5600X3D, Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
