New quick panel for quick settings in Samsung One UI 6

According to Samsung, users get a decidedly simple look with One UI 6, in which many elements of the operating system have been optically adapted to appear more modern and reduced. What is particularly striking is the new quick panel for quick settings relating to the most essential functions of the smartphone, which now offers larger buttons and more space between the individual elements. The two-stage swipe down that is currently required in One UI 5 to access the entire quick panel is no longer necessary in One UI 6, as all functions are displayed immediately with a swipe from the top right corner of the screen.

Background images for profiles

New customization options are also coming with One UI 6. This includes background images linked to the respective situation. For example, you can set that a specific background image is always displayed when the smartphone is in sleep or another mode. The home screen offers a new camera widget where the storage location can be set in advance.

Samsung also mentions optimizations that should make everyday tasks easier. In addition, the safety standards are to be raised. The manufacturer has not yet given any further details on either point.

Android 14 reaches the last beta before the release

Android 14 direct from Google has been available to try on compatible Pixel smartphones since February this year. After two developer previews, the operating system has recently reached its fourth beta and is therefore nearing completion. Google is not planning another beta, instead, the final release is to take place in the course of the third quarter. The smartphones Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro expected for October should run with Android 14 ex-works.

Users interested in the One UI 6 beta should be careful when installing the new version, as several users have reported that it is currently not possible to roll back to the stable One UI 5 (Android 13) using the Samsung Smart Switch. This is reported by users in the Samsung community, in the Android Help forum and by e-mail to the editors. As such, Smart Switch is currently unable to roll back after exiting the beta program. Usually, during this process, Smart Switch would first back up the smartphone data to the PC, erase the device and then install the previous version of the operating system together with the user data.
