Galaxy Tab S9

Almost a year and a half after the launch of the Galaxy Tab S8 models, Samsung is delivering a new generation of Android tablets alongside new foldable and watches. The top model, which, like the Galaxy S23 premium smartphone, has the suffix Ultra, comes with a large 14.6-inch AMOLED display like its predecessor. That’s what’s in it and that’s how expensive they are.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra: 120 HZ display with notch

As with the Tab S8 series, the Ultra model represents the premium league, although the manufacturer has also provided the other models with good equipment. However, with its 14.6-inch OLED display with WQXGA Plus resolution of 2,960 x 1,848 pixels and 120 Hertz refresh rate, the Tab S9 Ultra towers above both its own tablets and the iPad Pros from Apple.

Based on its predecessor, the Ultra comes with a camera notch to keep the screen edge as narrow as possible. There is enough space for a wide and ultra wide-angle camera, each with 12 MP.

Meanwhile, on the back of the Ultra and Plus models are two cameras with 13 MP and autofocus for wide-angle shots and another with 8 MP for ultra-wide-angle shots. On the front, the Plus and Basic models have a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera for video calls.

The other two models in the form the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus and Tab S9 have a 12.9– and 11-inch AMOLED display, respectively, with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,752 and 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. All three tablets support a dynamic refresh rate of 60 to 120 Hertz. They all have an aspect ratio of 16:10.

Samsung‘s TabS9: Faster chip on board

All Tab S9 models use Qualcomm’s top chip Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy as the processor, which is also installed in the S23 series and the current foldable Flip 5 and Fold 5. In memory, Samsung offers the Ultra in versions with 12 to 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB to one terabyte. The Plus is available with 12 GB of RAM and 256 and 512 GB of memory.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9: All models are IP68 certified

A novelty in the tablet sector is the protection against water and dust according to protection class IP68 in the Tab S9 models. So far, only smartphones or smartwatches have offered this type of protection. The new tablets can now be taken into the bath with no worries. The new protection should also be well received by companies.

In addition to the tablets, a new S-Pen is also certified according to protection class IP68, according to Samsung.

The tablets are also equipped with batteries with 11,200 (Ultra), 10,090 (Plus) and 8,400 mAh (Basic), which can be charged via the USB-C port. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the display and there are four speakers with AKG sound and Dolby Atmos support on board. Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6e and optional 5G/LTE are also included.

Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI interface is installed as software. In addition to the usual Android functions from Google, Samsung has added a few more features to the operating system: In the so-called multi-window view, up to three apps can be displayed simultaneously in a split-screen view. Alternatively, multiple apps can be run simultaneously as free-floating windows on the display with the pop-up view, while the home screen remains visible.

Dex mode is also part of the user experience, giving the tablet a desktop-like view with a mouse cursor, flexible app window resizing and second-screen functions.

As with many Samsung devices, the manufacturer guarantees four major Android updates and security updates over a five-year period.
